Federal Agencies Request Public Input on Healthcare Price Transparency

The effort aligns with President Trump’s executive order on healthcare pricing.

The Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services (HHS), and the Treasury recently issued a joint Request for Information (RFI) to gather public input on improving prescription drug price transparency. The administration seeks to enhance the quality and accessibility of data that health plans use for reporting and to make cost information more useful for consumers.

Separately, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) updated guidance requiring hospitals to post actual prices—not estimates—for services and issued its own RFI to strengthen compliance and accuracy in price transparency.

“Transparency in health care is essential, not optional,” said Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Chief of Staff and Deputy Administrator Stephanie Carlton. “Americans deserve to know exactly what they’re paying for and what they’re getting in return. We’re pulling back the curtain on pricing and ultimately value – because accountability is a foundation of a healthier nation.”

New technical guidance has also been released to streamline health plan disclosures, to remove redundant data, and help individuals better understand their healthcare costs.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Deputy Administrator Carlton as she supports the administration’s effort to ensure transparent healthcare pricing for the American public.
  • For Deputy Secretary of Labor Keith Sonderling as he promotes transparent healthcare pricing to support employer health insurance coverage.
